Dive sites in Curaçao
Curaçao is known for easy shore diving, steep walls and clear water. Here are dive sites on the island with depth and difficulty.
Playa Lagun
A narrow bay between two high cliffs. The shallow part is ideal for beginners, while the reef outside the bay drops off steeply. Rock walls full of holes with moray eels, crabs and lobsters. Good chance of sea turtles inside the bay. Address: Playa Lagun, Curaçao.
Playa Jeremi
A quiet, unspoiled beach with few facilities. The dive starts in a shallow sandy bay and leads to a gently sloping reef on both sides. Known for healthy brain coral and sponge populations. Address: road to Santa Cruz, Curaçao.
Black Rock (Piedra Pretu)
Note: unlike often stated, this site is not near Santa Martha but just west of Eastpoint on the east side of the island, reachable by boat only. A dramatic, steep wall covered in black coral and large sponges. Because of depth and current it is best suited to advanced divers.
Playa Forti
Mostly known for the high cliff that people jump from, but underwater it is a lovely, calm dive. A sandy bottom with scattered coral blocks that lead into a reef. Lots of macro life. Address: Playa Forti, Westpunt, Curaçao.
Playa Santa Cruz
A wide sandy bay. The swim to the reef from the beach is quite long, but the reef is calm and rarely visited. Often the starting point for a boat taxi to the nearby Blue Room. Address: Playa Santa Cruz, Curaçao.
Daaibooi Beach
An easy, comfortable shore dive with the reef close by, split into a shallow and a deeper section. Known for large sponges, moray eels and regular encounters with stingrays. Perfect for night dives. Address: Daaibooi, Curaçao.
San Juan (Playa Manzalina/Shoko/Largo)
A series of remote, rugged beaches near Landhuis San Juan, reached by unpaved roads for a small fee. Because hardly any tourists come here, the reefs are extremely healthy and pristine. A 4x4 is recommended. Address: San Juan Landhuis, Curaçao.
Vaersenbaai (Kokomo Beach)
An easy dive site with excellent facilities. The sandy bottom holds the remains of an old pontoon and ironwork, completely overgrown with coral. The reef slopes away with plenty of life such as squid and seahorses. Address: Kokomo Beach, road to Bullenbaai, Curaçao.
Bullenbaai
A dive site along the steep coastline near the Bullenbaai oil terminal. The reef drops off steeply here. Chance of larger pelagic fish. Recommended only in very calm seas. Address: Bullenbaai, Curaçao.
Snake Bay (Slangenbaai)
The name comes from the many moray eels living in the rocks here, not from snakes. A fantastic reef with a high density of fish. Shore entry can be challenging because of the stones. Address: Piscadera area, just before Boka Sami, Curaçao.
Boka Sami (Sint Michiel)
Located in a traditional fishing village, with the reef starting right in front of the local dive school. A comfortable, calm dive with a gradual slope, lots of hard coral and schools of juvenile fish. Address: Wishi/Marchena towards Sint Michielsbaai, Curaçao.
Marie Pampoen (Pierbaai)
A very accessible dive location close to town. Underwater lie concrete structures of an old pier that now serve as a lively artificial reef. Many small fish species, crabs and fantastic macro photography. Address: Marie Pampoen, Willemstad, Curaçao.
Blue Bay Wall & Garden
From Blue Bay beach you can go two ways: left is "The Wall", an impressive vertical wall that drops deep; right is "The Garden", a gently sloping coral reef with huge coral heads and lots of reef fish. Address: Blue Bay Resort, Curaçao.
Double Reef
Named for two reefs running parallel to each other, separated by a wide strip of sand. A unique landscape with many stingrays in the sand and healthy coral growth on both reefs. Address: near Aqualectra, Willemstad, Curaçao.
Small Wall (Caracasbaai/Director's Bay)
Located just around the corner from Director's Bay in Caracasbaai, Jan Thiel. A shorter, vertical wall dive rich in colorful sponges, including large barrel sponges. Often less current than surrounding sites. Address: Caracasbaai, Jan Thiel, Curaçao.
